Time period on 'curse' files

I was looking at it and it says it lasts 6 months. What exactly does that mean? 6 months from when I get the file working properly it doesn't work anymore? Or during that time period it can't be removed?

Help on understanding please.

And with this file, I'll no longer have normal dreams?
